A’Ibom APC petitions IG, alleges threat to life

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, on an alleged plot by a group of politicians in the state to eliminate APC’s governorship candidate, Umana Okon Umana, and other senior APC officials.

Details of the alleged plot as contained in a petition filed by the APC’s lawyer in the state, Effiong Oquong, disclosed how the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government officials in the state are planning to attack APC’s campaign rallies and destroy certain facilities and blame it on the APC.

The petition reads: “We feel compelled to bring this plot to your attention keeping in mind the events that took place in our state in 2011 when Senator James Udoedeghe’s campaign rally was attacked in Ikot Ekpene, which was followed by a “stage managed” touching of government building and vehicles, including President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign office in Uyo, an event leading to the arrest and detention of Senator Udoedeghe until the eve of the elections.

“We cannot afford to allow a repeat performance of these events hence this prompt report to enable you to put your men in Akwa Ibom State on the alert and to tighten security at APC rallies in these closing days of campaigns”.

Accusing Governor Akpabio for mounting pressure on the APC senatorial candidate, Otuekong Inibehe Okorie, the party said: “We are using this opportunity to alert the world of covert moves to undermine the 2015 general elections in Akwa Ibom State by Governor Godswill Akpabio,”
