Rivers: 23 LGA chairmen, thousands of APC supporters protest police bias


Less 24 hours after the Police Commissioner Dan Bature, accused Governor Chibuike Amaechi of attacking the command because the command refused to bow to pressure to release hardened criminals, thousands All Progressive Congress, APC members led by 23 Caretaker committee chairmen this morning staged a peaceful protest to the Police Headquarters calling for justice, fairness in handling political motivated arrests of APC members. 
The peaceful protesters who were carrying placards that read “Police stop arresting us”, Treat APC, PDP equally”, “Police Stop killing of our members”, You are killing us and calling us cultists, hardened criminals”, Police don’t dare rig election for PDP” and many more berated the state Police Command for re-attesting and detaining Hon Charles Anyanwu, the Caretaker committee chairman of Etche local Council and others despite being cleared by a Federal High Court and be granted bail.
 
The caretaker committee chairmen who were also joined by Tony Okocha, marched to the Police Headquarters, Moscow Road for fair treatment. The protest started at about 7:00 a.m. with protesters trekking along Port Harcourt/Aba road to Police headquarters.

The peaceful protest almost went restive when Police trucks drove menacingly through crowd of protesters to disperse them. However, nobody was hurt.
 
The peaceful protest was taken the state headquarters of the the Department is State Services, DSS, where complaints were registered.

Emmanuel Chinda, a Commissioner of Agriculture and chieftain of APC said the protest is to bring to fore the pre-2006 era when the state was lockdown by militants, ethnic militias and gun bearing criminals who had the backing of the the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He said after the botched APC rally in Okrika that led to the killing of a serving policeman and injury of 50 others, no one has been arrested.” Are the Police in Rivers State an arm of PDP, especially now we are about go for an election.”
