Election delay doesn't benefit us - PDP

Lagos – Ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly dismissed allegations that it motivated the country's security chiefs to ask for the postponement of the country's general election.
This comes after opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) party leader Muhammud Buhari accused PDP of "engineering" the delay to avoid defeat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairperson Attahiru Jega announced the postponement of the elections over the weekend, citing an advisory from security forces that they were unable to provide adequate security for the election.

The elections which had been initially scheduled for 14 February have been moved to 28 March, while the state gubernatorial and legislative votes have been pushed to 11 April.
According to Premium Times, Buhari said although the electoral body, the, (INEC) had acted within its constitutional powers to delay the vote, "it is clear that it has been boxed into a situation where it had to bow to pressure".

But PDP's spokesperson Olisa Metuh was quoted by Naij.com as saying - while the PDP supported the election delay, it did not stand to benefit from it.

Metuh also said the postponement could also not be described as a set back to the country's democracy.
